In Print: Exploring the International Printing Museum (Event #3 - 8/31/24)

During this hands-on experience, we learned about the history of printed materials and explored one of the world's largest collections of antique printing machinery, including floor and table model iron, proof, and clamshell presses, and Unitype and typography machines. Many of these machines are quite unique and have been used in Hollywood period films and TV shows.
During the walkthrough we had the opportunity to view many of the machines in action, as each apparatus was detailed by the docent. Then, we learned to print with various methods of inking, pressing, and rolling, as we listened to the rattle of a real working Linotype machine (operated, of course, by a professional). Everyone went home with a handful of self-printed materials and a personal souvenir slug from their Linotype machine.
This in-person event is perfect for history buffs, art enthusiasts, and anyone curious about the world of printing. Don't worry if you missed this one; we plan on repeating this event down the road... so, stay tuned!
